Worldwide marine meteorological and oceanographic communities are working in partnership under the umbrella of the WMO-IOC Joint Technical Commission for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology, (JCOMM) in order to respond to interdisciplinary requirements for met/ocean observations, data management and service products.
The JCOMM in situ Observations Programme Support Centre (JCOMMOPS) aids the JCOMM process by coordinating planning, implementation and operations of the marine observing systems, monitoring marine data streams and providing technical assistance.
The JCOMMOPS Technical Coordinator works with JCOMM DBCP and OceanSITES global data buoy networks providing a variety of services, including marine data coordination, dissemination and generation of observation system monitoring products.
The Technical Coordinator provides technical advice; maintains technical documentation; updates the JCOMMOPS databases; and provides information supporting emerging needs, and discussions of the DBCP, and OceanSITES. The Technical Coordinator assists members of the DBCP and OceanSITES by providing technical advice on collecting and distributing quality-controlled, real-time, observational platform data. The Technical Coordinator will participate in the development of cooperative arrangements for use of moored platforms and for buoy deployment and maintain information on buoy deployment opportunities and strategies and will liaise with other met-ocean observing programs to complement and augment the goals of DBCP and OceanSITES such as real time data sharing and ship time coordination.
